Indicators of Healthy and Vibrant Communities Roundtable – Summary Report

by Samantha Burdett, Sylvie Cantin, Romilly Rogers

Community indicators are used by politicians, government policy-makers and community organizations to measure progress and evaluate initiatives.  Ontario currently lacks a province-wide set of indicators. Key government decision-makers and representatives of Ontario's non-profit community, think tanks and foundations attended the Indicators of Healthy and Vibrant Communities Roundtable hosted by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and Canadian Policy Research Networks in Toronto on June 23, 2008 to address the need for a set of provincial indicators. The roundtable's Summary Report describes the day's proceedings, including the main messages from key speakers and participants, and the principle discussion points from three breakout groups.  It also sets out potential next steps to help realize a community indicator system for Ontario.
