Employer Investment in Workplace Learning in Canada

by Mark Goldenberg

It's a dilemma for many employers:  should they invest in training employees – risking the cost, time off and possibility that the higher-skilled worker could leave for another job?  The evidence shows that the benefit to employer and employee is more than worth the risk.  Still, Canadian employers lag behind others around the world in training the people who work for them.  How to motivate employers is the subject of CPRN Research Associate Mark Goldenberg's presentation to the "Forum on Employer Investment in Workplace Learning" held in Ottawa last November.  The forum and presentation flow from Goldenberg's research report Employer Investment in Workplace Learning in Canada.
